What is general ophthalmology?

Ocular health must be given special attention. Indeed, neglecting eye problems and forgetting to have eye exams can cause irreversible damage to your eyes. Therefore, it is essential to consult a specialist quickly if any of the following signs affect you :

  • Changes in your color perception or image sharpness.
  • Physical changes in the eye or visible signs of infection.
  • A narrowing of your field of vision.
  • Distortions, noise or sudden flashes in your vision.
  • Partial or total loss of vision in one or both eyes.

Note that general ophthalmology consultations are for the entire population, adults and children alike.

How does it work?

General ophthalmology consultations allow for the detection of both common and rare eye conditions. They are also essential for obtaining a prescription for glasses, contacts or treatment. It is therefore a clinical examination that must be performed regularly, regardless of your age.

At each consultation, the clinic’s doctors, accompanied by their teams, perform check-ups to determine the most appropriate personalized protocol for each of our patients.

During a general ophthalmology consultation, the doctor’s diagnosis aims to evaluate your visual performance through a series of tests. Your distance/near vision, light sensitivity, eye muscle balance, field of vision, contrast, relief and color perception are all tested.

General ophthalmology summarized in a few steps

An initial consultation allows us to perform the necessary examinations and make a diagnosis.

We welcome you in our ophthalmology clinic and we carry out a pre-consultation to better understand your needs. This consists of understanding the reason for the consultation and your medical history.

Then, an eye exam is performed. It allows us to measure your vision, to detect any type of optical defect as well as abnormalities in eye tone and corneal thickness.

If you wear glasses, they are also measured. Additional examinations may be performed in case of suspected pathologies.

After the pre-consultation and the measurements, you will meet with the ophthalmologist for a consultation. You discuss your needs and symptoms with him. He may also perform additional procedures such as an eye exam with a lamp or a fundus, depending on your symptoms and your history.

Depending on the results of the various examinations, the doctor will then personally give you your prescription for glasses or treatments.
